La Bella Super Polished Ian Martin Set

NAMM inspired me. I just picked up a set and I can’t wait to hear them on my Geddy Jazz since I demoed them on a beautiful Olinto Jazz.

Has anyone done a comparison between Super Polished IMA Signature set and GHS Pressurewounds?
I have a standard Super Polished set on one of my precisions and I have a PJ arriving soon. On the new PJ I would try a set with reduced gauges like the IMA set or alternatively switching things up and trying the Pressurewounds.
The last time I used Pressurewounds was probably 5–6 years ago, so I can’t really picture the comparison clearly anymore.

I have a set of IMAs in my string bin, I didn't love them on any of my basses at the time but I should give them another shot. I have one bass I've always kept Pressurewounds on (its a PJ). You may just give the "normal" Super Polished a try. They are smoother than the IMAs and less aggressive but still retain a nice snap when you pop them. Give them a few shows time, but I LOVE them on my Stingrays as they tame the G-string without robbing the classic MM sound when you dig in. Quite remarkable.

I’ve got the IMAs on my Stingray 4HH and I really like them. They were OK on my Spector but picked things up a notch on the ‘ray which had Cobalt flats. Don’t know if I can describe what it is about them I like, maybe it’s just the slightly brighter response than the flats.

Late to the party but glad I made it. Just put a set on one of my SR5 and they might just be the ticket! Bright and clear without being harsh.

The IMA strings are pretty nice and I think I'll like them more after they break in more. I still prefer either rounds or flats, but these are better than the set of regular Super Polished I tried when they brought them back a couple years ago. That set had a super dead E, sort of dead A, and then really bright D and G so they were horrendously unbalanced.

I LOVE the regular Super Polished. Great sound, great sustain. Must have been a bad package.

How do these compare to half rounds (specifically the D'Addario ones)? Looking to replace the low tension flats on my bass but would like to have something a bit different from regular roundwounds.
