LaBella 760FL's silk color??

Hey All,

I bought a couple of sets of the LaBella 760FL flats a few months ago and I am happy to report that they are exactly what I have been looking for...a bit more vintage thud and a bit more tension that the TI flats that I had been using prior (also, after breaking TWO "A" strings on two seperate basses both strung with Thomastik flats (JF344's) I chose to move to something other than TI's)...

Anyway, whilst reading old TB threads I stumbled on one about silk colors and everyone is saying the 760FL LaBella's are red...but mine are orangey/red...both sets of packaging were unopened and brand new and labelled as 760FL...do you think I accidentally ended up with the 760FX?? The ONLY reason I wanted to be sure is that I love them and I want to keep using the same ones...maybe they changed the 760FL's to orangey/red(ish) silks...I don't know...just wanted to see if the Talk Bass folks could shed some light on this so I know for future purchases (although, two sets might last me a few years or more lol)

LaBella Flats have different color silks...

760FX (Extra Light .039 .056 .077 .096) = Almost Red Orange Silk
760FL (Light .043 .060 .082 .104) = Red Silk
760FS (Standard .045 .065 .085 .105) = Black Silk
760FM (Medium .049 .069 .089 .109) = Blue Silk

0760M (Jamersons) = Blue Silk

Yeah...that is what I spied that made me think...both packages were labelled as 760FL's but both packages contained strings with "almost red orange" silk...so I am to assume that LaBella put the wrong strings in the wrong packaging??

no worries...and if it is indeed a mistake...than I guess the 760FX were what I really wanted (tension is great...feel is great...and tone is awesome)...I am really just trying to determine what I have for the next time I have to order some strings

It is possible that the color is not always the same string to string and in the sets, and depending on the age of the strings they could have faded, or the supplier had a little bit of an off color... (at one point I know one manufacturer was blowing out a bunch of strings because the wrap color was lighter than they normally use).

So it is really hard to say, it would be best to measure the strings to see if they are the correct gauges.

These strings were ordered from you about three months ago I think...so not old or faded stock...hmmm...I guess I will have to measure them...thx

I haven't had 760FL on the shelf longer that a week so not sure why... Possible their wrapping was a little lighter. I'll get a pic comparing the two...

Cool...and just to be clear...I was thinking it was more of a LaBella issue than the distributor/reseller (you in this case)...I have had nothing but great experiences with Bass Strings Online (especially the Aguilar 5J-60's pickups you gave me a great deal on a couple of weeks ago!!)

Just found this old thread and I'm in the same boat as OP. My 760FL set has orange silk (also purchased from BSO, but perhaps a LaBella issue). Either way, the strings are great.

Same here.... I have been a 760FL user for years and they have always been red but the ones I recently got are also orangish and they are seemingly lighter. I had I have always tuend them to Eb but these are a little floppier than I have ever experienced. Still feel and sound great.

Well I've received today a set of La Bella 760 FL from a German online shop, silk color is like orange indeed.
Tried to take a pic comparing with TI flats' silk color (which is undoubtedly red)

Same here..... I have a set that I bought a year or so ago and they are also orange instead of red.

the only way to know is to measure them with a digital caliber, to be sure about the gauge.

or simply email La Bella asking if they changed the silk

I just got a new shipment in from La Bella which included some brand new sealed 760FL strings. It appears the wrapping color is more orange than red.

They appear to all be the correct size.

Thanks for the info. The exact color of the silk is irrelevant as long as it's not a case of mixed-up gauges in wrong packages.

Great flats. 760FL feel fantastic and despite their reputation as "thudders" can be EQ'd and played to be heard clearly in a live mix IMO...at just the right place among the other instruments.
