Labella Jamerson 0760M on Fretless?

Hi,
Has anyone every put the Jamerson Flats on a Fretless Bass? Preferably a Fretless Precision Bass?

Not on a Precision, but my Brice fretless. I get that nice bloom (mwah as they say). I don't have other comparisons to other strings as that's what I had on the bass when I defret it. I liked the sound, so I didn't bother changing the strings. Great sounding strings IMO.

I've used them on a 1980 Ibanez RS-980 Roadster. Great strings, but for this bass I actually prefer the Ernie Ball Group I stainless steel flats (very similar gauges). I do keep a set on a fretted version of a similar bass, 1981 RS-824.

I do keep all my basses tuned to D-standard these days, though. And I'm not against the typical Jaco/Pino/Mick Karn type of sound normally associated with fretless bass, but I find it less than useful for many songs (and I tend to play mostly in a open mic house band or Blues jams) so unless you can actually see my fingerboard you might not be able to tell I'm playing a fretless. (Or I'm playing "These Boots are Made for Walking". )

Notice that the Jamerson set, 0760M are described on the LaBella site as "Tension: Heavy". That description scared me away from trying them out of fear for my arthritic hands.

Also, they are not designed for string through applications.

I bought a set of LaBella 760FS-TB for string through on my Tony Franklin fretless but I have not installed them yet, but I do look forward to trying them.

I think that might depend more on the amp and speakers, and signal chain (if any). And I'm also a proponent of the bass picks the strings — a set of strings that sound great on one bass may not sound all that great on another, and vice versa. Even basses of the same make and model. I do find them well defined and punchy, but I do use a compressor and a Broughton Audio high-pass filter.

The only way to know for sure is for you to try them on your bass with your rig.

The Jamersons are thick and feel stiff rather than tense but that's just my opinion. Keep in mind that 50-100 Fender Flats are too noodly for me when I play live and start digging.
I also don't have "arthuritis', as Fred Sanford used to say. Yet, that is.

It's more about the tone for me. I had them on a jazz bass almost 15 years ago and remember them as quite something tension wise and tone wise. I loved them but they didn't fit for the band and the jazz neck had little to resist so the action was not to my liking.

What I am curious about is how they sound on a fretless and if someone has a sound sample or link.
