LaBella Tapewound For Headless

Hey, all. I just acquired a Steinberger Spirit headless bass, and I'd like to try the tapewounds on it. The one thing I'm concerned about is the heavier gauge typically requires backing the saddles up for proper intonation. I don't want to get stuck with the saddles backed up so far that the thicker wrapped part of the string, near the ball end, rests on the bridge saddle. Has anyone used these strings on a headless bass, and did you encounter any problems such as what I've described here? Thanks for your time.

You have to realize that tapewound gauges are pretty misleading. For example, D'Addario's .115 E-string is actually a .095 round under black nylon tape, which is soft and adds almost nothing in terms of mass or tension. I've never used them on a headless, but I'm guessing that you wont have any issues that you wouldn't already have with a light set of strings.

I know what you're saying. I still recall having to back the saddles up quite a bit, though, when using the single ball version of the LaBella tapes. I'm concerned that the combination of the Steinberger bridge, and the wrap at the bridge end of the string, can equate to not a whole lot wiggle room when dialing in the saddles.

Anyway, just trying to avoid paying for a set and then realizing I can't get the intonation quite right due to these particular design limitations. I may just have to bite the bullet and give it a try, though, if no one else here has any experience with this exact scenario.
