Lakland 44-01... WoW!

So ive had my 44-01 for about a week now and let me just give an overal review. This bass kills!

Finish/Durability - I got the natural body with maple fretboard, and the finish is absolutely killer. Looks amazing, and definatly built to last. The thing is built like a tank, i promise. When i first picked the bass up i thought i was holding some legendary Fender work horse.

Playability- The bass came set up to perfection. The action was slammed low(how i like it) and the neck was perfectly straight. I can get just about any tone i want from the Barts and pre amp, its killer. The only thing i have to dog on is that the fret ens stuck out slighty passed the fretboard. This was easily fixed when i shaved them down with a finger nail file. The neck has a P-bass like feel, but with a jazz edge to it. Its a great neck.

Features- Lakland standard bridge, Hipshot tuners, Graphite reinforcement bars to eleminate dead spots, Bart MK1 pre and pups, and Fishman flip open battery holder, this thing is loaded for the price tag. They seriously mean it when they say that some high end basses aren't built like the 44-01.

My girlfriend's dad has been playing over 30 years and he was blow out of the water when he played this bass. Not to mention he has a 55-02, a Pedulla, a Rick, and countless Fenders. Buy this bass, its a hauss.

I'd like to hear others comments on the Lakland 44-01, and their set-ups and gear with the bass.

Glad you like it!!!! do a search...there is a Lakland -01 club thread around here somewhere! that is the place to talk up the -01 basses!!!

Last year, I had to sell my Natural Ash 44-01 to a friend to make room for an incoming Valenti. Still have my 55-01, but I loved the 44-01. I also must say the Rosewood boards on these is top notch. :hyper:

+1 here too!

I have a black one with maple board. Great bass for the price. But if I am correct the graphite bars are not installed in the Skyline 4 strings neck only with the 5 strings. Still, this is the best bass neck I ever put my hands on by far.

If you check this link at lakland about features common to all their
basses, it indicates all necks have the graphite reinforcements. :cool:

Actually, that diagram is rather confusing.

This is from the "FAQs: US and Skyline – What’s the Difference?" document located at: Invalid Link Removed

"Necks
Graphite Reinforcement
Necks on both 4 and 5-string US basses are reinforced with a strip of graphite on either side of the truss rod, which provides a stabilizing effect. The 5-string Skyline necks also have graphite reinforcement but the 4-strings do not.

Construction
US necks are made of quarter-sawn rock maple, which is highly sought after and very hard to find. Quarter-sawn wood is stronger and more stable and thus contributes to the ability of the neck to remain true. Skyline necks – along with the necks of 98% of the basses on the market today – are made of flat-sawn rock maple."

This is true for the US Models not for the Skyline Series. SKyline Series definitely doesn't have a quarter sawn maple neck as stated on the page you refer to. You would be better to check the 44-01 page here: http://www.lakland.com/basses/44-01.htm[url]
