Double Bass LaMay Bow

Are Lawrence LaMay bows any good? Any one have experience, any opinions? How about Hannings and Rubino bows? I'm considering bows anywhere up to 3k, any other opinions on where to start looking for a bow in this price range?

Zdzislaw Prochownik makes some Link Removed in that price range. There's also some great bows coming out of Brazil that can be had for under 3k, although you may need to fish through a few dozen before you find a gem.

I've had a LaMay bow for about 20 years now, it was my main bow until I got my Sue Lipkins about 2 years ago. The one I have is a very good bow. Not as good as the Lipkins, but no other bow I've ever tried is. Still, it holds it's own, considering it's about 1/4 the value. Mine is very light (weight), but it pulls a nice tone from the bass, very clear and clean, though not super deep. My teacher, an orchestral player, really likes it and thinks it's a great bow. Of course, another LaMay bow might be quite different. Like basses, all bows are individuals, and you have to close your eyes and play a bunch till you find the one that works for you.
