Laney Bass Amps

Who on TB uses or has used Laney bass amplifiers?

Me, great old school rig. And loud.

Tried some ss 400w head a few years ago, don't even remember what it was called. Didn't like it, wasn't that loud for 400w, was comparable volume to my amp which is rated at 250w (at same ohmage) which is pretty bad. Also those heads feel fairly large to me, if I'd be getting a high wattage head, I'd probably be opting for something that's
1) louder
2) smaller
3) more expensive

But YMMV, maybe it just has the tone you're looking for, also those ss heads shouldn't be that expensive used.

I tried my mate's ancient DP150 410 combo last weekend, that he gigged around the country in the 90s. He didn't want a lot for it but I felt the head wanted attention and it weighed so much I would be risking serious injury trying to move it in/out of my second floor flat (no lift).

I wanted to like it...

I'm not too familiar with their bass amps, but the old Laney AOR was a respectable Marshall clone. My buddy has a solid state guitar combo that's not bad. It's also worked well as a keyboard amp.

I meant Laney LA30BL, not Ashdown LB30

I know what you meant. The price of that Laney is (in my view) ridiculous. And the LB30 (or CTM30) Ashdown sounds incredible. You can find them used for less than half what that Laney goes for.

I haven't tried one, but that Nexus tube head looks really damn cool. And yeah, not a lot of great demos, but from what I've seen it sounds pretty damn good.

And that old (80s, presumably?) 1x15 stack on page 1 looks like it just shipped from Music Emporium yesterday, damn.

If you mean my old L120BH rig, I try to keep all my gear in good knick. Been trained too well, maybe. It was in great condition when I bought it so the rest was up to me.

I think it dates to mid-80s but there isn't a whole lot of info around on them. I was just happy to get a bass rig I could afford when I found it.

My first true bass amp was a Laney L120BH with 15" cab. Bought it secondhand sometime around mid-90s.

It's occupying space in a corner these days.

Laney aor protube I use to own had a bass boost that could easily pass for a bass amp. Too bassy for me.

I did think about it...and it sold a month or so ago now...

I didn't buy that amp for what it's worth. I paid the extra for a Rumble 500 combo, which I like very much.
