laptop screen issue

Hello Tbotts

I just got a new laptop, ordered from amazon. I've already called tech support and they want me to send it to California for a new one. I thought i'd check here first to see if you guys have insight into fixing the issue.

Everything seems to work fine; after all, it's brand new. After the initial setup, the screen is incredibly grainy. There are blue and red dots all over the place. I've adjusted resolution and color options but it hasn't helped. Here is a snapshot:

EDIT: of course, it looks fine viewing the picture on my desktop...so the pic probably isn't too helpful. Any ideas what it might be?

any ideas? i'd really like to avoid shipping this thing off if possible, but they have already offered to replace the unit. They didn't try to solve the problem over the phone, just immidiatly asked me to send it in.

Specs:
Asus UL20A, Windows 7 home, 2g ram, etc

thanks

cool, thanks. I just did a few pixel tests, and everything looks normal. So i think i can confirm it's not a dead pixel problem.

I know the pic i posted doesn't show the problem, so i'll try to explain it a little better.

The tiny red dots follow the curves of the different [arts of the picture, probably different shades of color. In this case, the clouds have swirls and clusters throughout. The rocks under water also have clusters and highlighting.
