Larry Austin - 24 Carat Black & Shotgun

[Bass Motifs]

Just been listening to the 1973 album "Ghetto: Misfortune's Wealth". Larry Austin is credited as the bass player, but can't find much online. Some great playing on a significant album, although it didn't do well at the time. He later formed Shotgun with some of the other players.

Ain't this a blast from the past. I recall first hearing this record at a friends house that was always hipping me to the best music from across many styles, Mitch. Mitch had a huge record collection and very serious stereo in an otherwise humble but comfortable abode. I would cruise by every week or so with a six pack or bottle and he would spend a long and often evening into night to often early morning listening to music I otherwise would have been oblivious to. Deep R&B, Soul and Funk cuts to Little Feat, Zappa and psychedelic rock. I in turn would share my favorite classical, jazz and fusion records in a humble exchange.

Nice one! Great thing about the internet is so much of this stuff can be found again. Coincidentally we'd just been going through the WattStax concert footage a few weeks ago, and turns out that Dale Warren who was a musical director for that was also the driving force behind the 24 Carat Black album.
