The grace notes (or is it an appoggiatura?), is it best to play across strings or on the single string? Because of the jump to the high A (5 bars and 1 bar before 46) I start to play from the 5th bar after 45 on the D and A string, is this preferable to starting on the G and D strings?

I prefer doing the grace notes on one string. It's more about the effect than the clarity for me. If you are wanting each note to be distinct going across the string is probably better.

I also like the notes before the first grace note figure on the D and G strings. I'm not concerned with getting vibrato on that D so closing it isn't that important. I like the sound of the open D on my bass better for a passage like this.

Cory - silly question time! Why did you do it that way? What was the intention?

The up bow the second time is intentional. The dynamic is piano so I wasn’t concerned with any dramatic effect. I wanted the accents and sfzorandos on down bows so the bow direction on the grace notes was dictated by that. The hooked eighths are a good place to turn the bow around.
