This is my first venture into multi-track recording and first time using Cubase so I'm sure there is something I am missing that is causing the latency problems and am hoping someone can help.
Here's the situation, my pastor has provided wav files of him playing guitar and harmonica plus singing from a studio session and he has asked me to add bass to it. Basically, I have one lane in Cubase with him and an empty lane for me to record my bass onto. I'm using Cubase 5LE that came with my Digitech BP355 effects board and have my bass plugged into the BP355 which is then connected via USB to my PC. In the devices section I have selected the BP355's own ASIO driver as both input and output.
So, to summarize, when I hit record in Cubase I am hearing my pastor's recording played to me through a pair of headphones connected to my BP355, and my bass signal is being recorded into the second lane in Cubase via the BP355's USB recording function.
This is all working great except for the heavy latency. The ASIO drivers slider is set to low latency, which it states is 5ms. However, when I play back my work there is a much more noticeable latency, to the measure of what sounds like 200+ms. I would have guessed that the delay is caused by latency with sending the already recorded track from cubase through the BP355, however, I would have thought this would also be subject to the 5ms latency as stated by its ASIO settings.
Can anyone please provide any advice as to where my latency issue is coming from and how I can address it?
Many thanks in advance.
Russ.
