I always come back to that one for my main OD sound since it has a very edgy sound, but doesn't mask your bass's essential tone. Really great pedal. V1 is better than V2. The V2 version, although more versatile (more knobs) doesn't sound quite as thick as the V1. I've never played an OD pedal that sounds like my bass more than the Shift Line. Almost every other pedal I've tried is just too overpowering.

I just checked out numerous videos of this thing and holy crap- it sounds amazing! I think this would be perfect for my 'mild' crunch/OD, something I may leave on all-song for some texture. I run a pretty clean, crisp sound (Dingwall+M6+pick) with good attack, so something more subtle I can layer over top would be awesome.

This plus another heavier OD are probably where I'm gonna end up- thanks for that link. At least over speakers, sounds like the best solution to my ears so far for getting started. I'll definitely look for the V.1 version.

Glad that worked out my friend. The Buzz is great and you will love it. It does great low gain and the high gain never gets out of control. It's a very thick and cutting sound and I personally have not yet met a pedal that beats it out in a mix. Again, get the V1. V2 lost a little bit of the mojo. It's a looser feeling pedal overall. V1 is tight and has more low end.

Cool. I've had the MBD-1 and now have the MBD-2. Good pedals, but totally different vibe from the Shift Line. IMO, the Buzz beats out the MBD in every category. It's possibly the dense mixes of the music I play (heavy emphasis on middy Keyboards and Synths), but the MBD gets totally lost. Shift Line cuts through every mix like a knife.

I'm for sure going to see how it works. The guys I'm starting to play with have a pretty high-mids tone, so it's not that scooped, bass-heavy thing that occupies literally 98% of all sonic space, and everyone else just fits in between. Of the YT clips I've seen, 1-on-1 I def prefer the Shift Line though.

Looking for something that keeps the chunk and low end, think mid 2000s Chevelle, that keeps the attack and heavy bass.

I have had this exact issue, which led me to work on my own overdrive over the last 2 years, (no mean feat when you are trying to breadboard an original circuit from scratch with no prior knowledge of building pedals, learning on the go). Here is the 1st prototype of the pedal, apologies for the phone audio quality. A better quality video and updated prototype 2 will be coming in the next few months.

Sorry I wasn't saying the pedal you mentioned had that characteristics- I meant that's the tone I was going after with this thread.
I will look into that pedal though- there's so many new ones to try!

oh sorry! If that's the case, the crunchiest and and thickest overdrive I've found is the tech 21 YYZ or a darkglass x7
