le Suire Avalanche Tube Amp

With David Garrett I actually played guitar in the band setting and Vimana in the trio setting. Sometimes I subbed on bass.
The new bassplayer is Vincen Garcia

Love the rig now I have to check out your playing for some inspiration!

I realize this could be subjective, but is there any noticeable difference in sound/response to the gigantic steel stack/copper output transformers like the ones used in the SVT?

Maybe @roogbass can tell you how his Le Suire sounds compared to a SVT?
There would obviously be a lot more differences than just the “transformers used”, they are entirely different amps.

To attribute an effect to a cause, you would have to compare the same amp with the different power supplies.
 
Weight reduction is mainly due to the use of SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply)
…and probably a thoroidal output transformer?

***Edit, maybe not finally as the manual shows a rectangular spot for, I guess, the OPT.

Yes, same. I'm also very intrigued by the EQ volume knob, I don't think I've seen this in any other amp.
I've seen amps where you can defeat the EQ completely with a switch, but not with a continuous knob like this.
I wonder what are the use cases thought…

Smps negates a need for the transformer and saves even more weight than going with a toroidal.
2 different transformers, there's a power transformetr and an output tranformer. The talk about toriodal transformers relates to the output transformer which is unrelated to the power supply.

An SMPS does not negate the need for a power transformer, there absolutely is a power transformer in an SMPS, it's just smaller and lighter because it operates at high frequencies in a switching application.

To match the volume between on and off. For instance when you use two different sounds. You could use the foot switch.
 
A boutique style all tube amp with a switching power supply.
Now that is something for the lead sled fraction to scratch their heads. Is it good because tubes or is it bad because no heavy iron transformers?
Yes.

And there is still a proper output transformer in these unless someone knows something I don’t. Both Markbass and Peavey had tube amps made with an SMPS. Never tried the Markbass but I tried one of the Peaveys and thought it was pretty darn good, can’t lie. Also had a cool light-up front panel. Can’t tell you exactly how it compares to an SVT but it was a quality tone.

I could compare it with my SVT-CL Heritage (which shall be a little cleaner than a normal CL, what I like) and will replace the SVT by the Avalanche. The Overdrive character is a bit different, not worse or better, Avalance a bit „finer-grained“. I am happy with Le Suire.
