lead guitarists.....

You think lead guitarists are bad... keyboardists are real prima donnas.
Really +1 here !

I'm playing with 2 bands, and the realtions between me and other musicians are really good. One is a soft-rock-typo band, which has 2 guitarists, and I sound relatively bold (I'm not playing just roots! :p ) In one song, I was even trusted to play the intro. :bassist: The other band plays black/death metal, so they just can't underestimate the importance of bass! :hyper:

I play with my friend who is drummer and my brother who is a guitarist, and they give me that crap about how bass is easy, even though I know they're joking...sometimes. But the thing is, is that they will say it anytime just to piss me off. Like when they will be talking, and I enter the conversation, they will say, "Shut up bassist!" and I tell you, it kinda gets on my nerves.

My brother has no respect what so ever, and I tell him to play the bass with his fingers, and he wont, but he tells me to play with a pick, and guess what, I can manage.

My drummer on the other hand said that he wanted to learn how to play the piano and guitar. And I said "what about the bass?" and he said "If I learn how to play the guitar, then I could play the bass." ...I just felt like exploding.

It's true, if you play guitar, you can play bass. Not that well nessicarily, but... you can. It's been the case with all guitarists I've seen/heard play bass.

If by "play bass" you mean scrape their pick against the strings and make noise, then yes, any guitarist can play bass. However, in my experience, the vast majority of non-bass playing guitarists aren't able to play well enough to get by (even playing root notes in a rock band) without at least spending some time practicing it.

I think it goes the other way, just as well. I can play the guitar fairly decently because of my bass playing. I'm pretty competent with chords and scales, and power chords are very easy. I make it a habit to play often with a pick so I can handle that, as well as classical and fingerstyle stuff because of bass. However, my solos aren't great, they're clearly bass-player influenced. Then again, guitarists won't groove like bassists, because they don't look at our instrument the same way either.

true, but most guitars that try and play bass can't groove, can't hit it on the kick and snare, then they turn around and say, "yeah, bass is easy" (the dumb ones anyway), just because they can rip out a natural minor lick, that they can play on the guitar anyways, point being, most guitarist who TRY and play bass can't groove like bassists can.

I'm pretty much a newb. I'm working at the slapping technique, and I bet if I jam with them and start rippin' slap grooves, they will stop being ********.

Mod Edit: please reread the usage agreement.
