Double Bass Leads on basses in Western Canada?

Looking to buy a carved bass for ~$10K CAD or less. I thought I would see if anyone had a line on a shop or player that may have something for sale in BC, Alberta or Sask before I go the L&M route. Feel free to shoot me a DM with information if you have a lead!

A guy in my section just bought a nice bass from the Bass Church, but I would be pretty nervous carting a newly purchased bass over the border, I think. That said, my teacher comes down from Vancouver with a bass pretty regularly. I'm not sure what, if anything, he tells the border guards. Obviously, he's not bringing newly bought equipment over every time but it feels like the border people could always ask because how would they know?

I've bought basses in the US and driven them across the border more than once. I have had no issues except that I had to pay PST and GST (12%) on my purchases. I knew that ahead of time so there were no problems. When I was on the road a lot, I always carried copies of my original receipts for all my gear (along with my work visa) and that seemed to satisfy both the CDN and US border people.

That's good to know, I have brought my bass up to Vancouver before but it was last year before things got awkward. I'm coming back up in June for a workshop (attending, not teaching, so no work permit problems) and it probably couldn't hurt to have some documentation with me, or at least, accessible.

Never lie to border guards! And be ready to show a receipt. In my experience (pre-2025) if you're just driving down to the US picking up and coming back in one day, you will probably have to pay GST/PST if it's over $600. It depends on the guard.
If you're down for a few days, $2000 will be waved through.
I stopped purchasing from the US as the situation is too unpredictable.
Check out FB Marketplace in the Vancouver area. There are a number of double basses for sale.
Also look up Rick Reynolds. PM if you can't find him - I have his card.
