learn with pick or fingers ?

I started with pick and developed fingers later. For Funk, I think fingers are definitely the way to go... Metal has a huge mixture of both. It's also easier to go from pick to fingers than the other way.

Do both if you can. Like said above, however, place an emphasis on fingers. It serves a purpose in a much wider variety of musical styles.
