....we usually don't like to mic bass cabs b/c of the feedback with the subs.

so THAT's why sound guys usually hate mic'd cabs...

...just notch the EQ to where you were getting the lows from the DI, and getting the mids and high end from the mic a

so THAT's the solution...

There have been several threads where sound guys have been bashed into the ground. Granted, I have issues with them sometimes too, but I think there needs to be a pro-sound dude thread! We need to learn how to cooperate with sound guys to make their truly hard job much easier. Think about it, they have to mix the sound, then adjust it to where you, the guitarist, the drummer, whoever else is in the band, the audience, and himself are ALL satisfied with the mix! They have to put up with all the complaints from the band needing more volume in their monitors, get more presence onstage, etc. At the end of the day, it's a wonder that there are even sound guys left in the world. To me, the key is striving WITH them to solve problems. Think with a bit of creativity. Try to work out the problem. And before all that, a very wise bassist once advised to go up at the beginning of a gig, before you even work with him, and introduce yourself, shake his hand, tell him about the band, the way you guys like the mix, what effects you guys use, etc.

Not sure if I totally believe it or not, but we got it sorted out anyway.

And yeah, weird huh? Actually using the EQ on a soundboard. Wild!

And now for the FOH part...

I said did it work, no feedback, etc., and he goes oh yeah worked great. All I did was just notch the EQ to where you were getting the lows from the DI, and getting the mids and high end from the mic and we were golden.

Ummmm, that is what I have always wanted soundguys to do! Sounds like a soundguy that knows what he is doing and MADE time for your tone. I think most of us would be plenty happy to get more than 30 seconds of tweaking for our tones. For me, if I can get like 60% of my tone through the PA and the rest tweaked for the room - cool! it's not going to be perfect, but as long as people can hear my tone differences between songs, I will be quite happy. I siwtch up my hand technique for a reason....

Well again, we're regulars there, I know what I'm doing and we've worked together plenty before, and I wanted to be accommodating, so I made sure and said "Yeah, if it's feeding back and giving you issues just kill it, but I like the mic tone b/c as you know I'm a pickstyle player and I really want to hear that grind." We have like 3 gigs coming up in the next 2 weeks, so I'll be interested to see what kind of feedback I get then when I bust out the almighty Heil!!
