Double Bass Learning to play the 5 string Double Bass for the first time

I just received a Thomas & George Martin 5 string Double Bass (I've put Helicore Medium Tension Orchestral Strings on it along with a matching Low B String for easier playability and I've also added a Copperhead Double Bass Pickup and Docking Station so I can run it though my Bass amp) & I'm learning how to play it for the very first time. I know how to hold the Bass seated, how to hold the bow (it's a French Bass bow which is held exactly like a Cello Bow), and I'm learning the 1-2-4 fingering system. I started bowing my first notes on it & I started feeling the Vibrations of that Low B string in my chest which is quite surprising.

It is easy to hurt yourself trying to single-handledly reinvent the wheel of DB technique.

5 string Double Basses are meant to be played with proper Double Bass technique so I'm getting a Double Bass method book so I can actually learn how to do that.

A book will only get you part of the way. You need a knowledgeable and experienced outside observer to help you along the way.

I don't understand it: you spend what, $20K+ on a professional level bass and can't find the $150 a month for a lesson. Please fill me in on the logic. It's like buying Tiger Woods level clubs and thinking you can tech yourself to putt.

My parents are super rich and actually I got a teacher that can teach me how to play the Double Bass properly.

I’m not sure if he has personal issues he’s dealing with or is simply seeking attention but my advice is to do what I have done and utilize the “ignore” feature.

I think there is a better chance that Gibson finds the lost ES-345 than the OP posting pics of his new basses
