Wondering if anyone had a similar experience with learning the music of their idol. Not sure if idol is the best word, but there it is. For me Jaco has always been the one for me. Not just because of his playing, but because I also struggle with mental illness. anyway, I learned Portrait of Tracy last year and it gave me a brand new appreciation for his genius and creativity. I feel like I know him in a way, deeper than I did before. I am currently working on Donna Lee, and I know that's not his tune, but he certainly brought his own style and flair to the piece. Somehow, learning what he has done has not only made me a better bassist, but brought me closer in a way to someone I never met. Hoping to hear some stories or similar sentiments from TB folks. Who was it, what was the tune, and what did you glean from it?
