Evening all, just venting my idle frustrations with a set of Legacy nickel on steel roundwound that I was fitting to my Spector NS-5CR this afternoon.
I've never tried these strings before but I bought them as a backup set because they are cheap (£15 a set compared to £30 for EBMM, Elites or D'Addario etc). I thought I'd sling them on for a week or two with a mind to fitting a brand new set of Elites shortly in anticipation of a possible session with friends.
G through E went in fine. The strings aren't individually wrapped but they come in a sealed plastic packet with some silica gel and the coloured ball-ends make them easy to sort quickly.
However, the B string wouldn't fit and left me cursing. My Spector has typical 'top down' slots on the machineheads. The end of the B string on these Legacy strings is 'unwound'. It's not an exposed core as the winding does taper slightly but it remains at nearly the thickness of the overall string, just too thick to fit into the slot to let me start winding the string.
It's no great loss as they weren't expensive and in fairness they sound and feel pretty good, but frustrating that I won't be able to rely on these as a backup going forward.
