I have to admit, I've had similar ideas in the past.

The concept is there, but I'm not completely sold on the execution. I'm assuming that some sort of modeling will be needed to make the system sound like a Marshall stack. Also, there is more to porting than just opening and closing the port -- the internal volume would also need to be different.

Anyway, talk amongst yourselves.

There is no advantage to stacking speakers side by side.
Vertical stacking is already allowed by all cabs on the market with a better use of space.
I fail seeing the interest in these things, putting a beautifully designed Eminence neo in these things would be treachery.

Not for me ... several thoughts...

The looks is one thing, I think it clutters up the view with all these elements.

From a practical standpoint - regular cabs you transport and set up as is, no extra space, assembly or cases needed. These speakers will probably need some kind of transport case to protect them and the sliding connectors, with more extra cases you need to store somewhere while playing, and with any size rig you'll have to assemble and take apart a number of components every gig.

Over time, how stable will the connectors be electrically as well as mechanically?

And, maybe the clincher ... unless each component is active, how do you deal with the changing impedance as you add speakers?

Cool very much like what I was thinking. If I can dream about my version... it would be an open standard and anyone could make modules that would work together. Like effect pedals, but with standard size modules that snap together or plug into a chassis like that. But very cool, I didn't know that existed. Thanks

Who wouldn't like an EMINANCE neo in their solid TONEWOOD custom piece?

I applaud the concept a bit, though. There's still no way around the compromise in use of airspace/ease of stacking and transporting. A box just works best at both, IMO. You may come up with a super way of fitting enough air inside a speaker using curves, but stacking squares & rectangles is hella easier, and they don't like to roll around as easily during transport.

In my view the post is OK. I don't think the OP is promoting it.

My thought is that the cylindrical cabs are inefficient. Square or rectangular cabs would have at least 25% more volume for the same amount of storage / transportation space, and can be arrayed vertically without hardware. Box volume is at a premium in most bass speaker designs. The Greenboy collection is a modular cab system, where the speakers are joined using gravity.

As for a modular amp here's my idea:

1. Choose a box with however many knobs you want, where more knobs also gets you more jacks on the back.

2. Add a power module with however many Watts you want.

3. Configure the knobs and jacks by installing DSP code that you can download or write yourself.
