Leo Quan Bass Tuner Keys

Glen Quan is long deceased and I believe Leo Malliaris is as well.
Badass as a brand name is owned by Allparts.

So it doesn’t directly answer your question about weight but it does indirectly give you some clues because if they were low weight as a feature they’d market that to all the builders who already use Allparts as a source.

Why don’t you ask Allparts?
I’d actually be surprised if they know.

looks neat but i'm trying to imagine why i'd ever want an item that gets bumped and stressed in regular use to be made of a thin plate of molded zinc instead of bent steel and i'm drawing a blank

I bought a set of the Badass tuners. They are definitely an upgrade to the standard MIM tuners. They feel more solid, they look better, there is less free play between gear teeth, and the action is smoother. All mounting holes lined up perfectly. However, the included bushings fit very loosely in the headstock holes. I ended up just reusing the original bushings. I don’t think anyone would ever notice. All that being said, I think the Hipshot HB7’s are even better. I found the fit and finish to be superior, and the 27:1 gear ratio is a nice upgrade. I can definitely tell a difference, and I believe I can be more precise when tuning with the HB7’s. To answer your question about weight, the Badass tuners are heavier than the MIM tuners by about .25oz each. With a four string bass, a set of Badass tuners would add about 1oz to the end of the neck. I would never notice a difference, but I know some people are very sensitive to that.

I know this is an older post but I can’t find the width of the cover tuners anywhere! I have a T-Bird Pro IV with a small headstock. I need a clover tuner 34mm (1.25”) or less across for spacing. What is the width of the widest point of the clover key? Thx! I appreciate any help. The current dimensions are below.

The Hipshot Ultralite clover keys are 1.557" (39.548mm) and the Hipshot mini clover keys are 1.296" (32.9mm) for both licensed and USA made; all are too large for your needs. The 'Y' key you have pictured above is 1.25" (31.75mm); these will fit. Finally the lollipop keys are 1.425: (36.2mm); again these are too large.

The Schaller and Gotoh keys are too large as well. You may be stuck with 'Y' keys unless you are willing to have the keys protrude at unusual angles.

Just measured the Badass clover tuners. The widest part of the clover is 1.577”. I noticed these smaller tuners are available now, but the specs don’t show the measurement you’re looking for. Might be worth sending an email to Allparts.

Shame the Allparts company which now owns Leo Quan doesn't suit the consumer market first, before their own pockets and force you to OVER purchase their product when you are looking for quality Tuners that are NOT INLINE.. Buying extra Tuners to make a set is costly and many bass manufacturers build extended range instruments or 3 plus 1 headstocks

Have you checked to see if they can be reversed? Most of those big ship anchors can be.

Got a set of these Badass Bass tuners for Mexican p basses in nickel. I got the "Long" tuners as you can choose long or short keys. I will say they dropped in and fit perfectly, look very nice, are durable and very accurate in tuning. There's pretty much no loose play in the gearing.
The only complaint i have is that they are noticeably heavier than the stock Fender tuning keys as well as the HB7's tuners. Other than that they are a great upgrade.👍
