Lessonface?

Hey all,

Has anyone here taken online lessons with Lessonface? If so how did it go? Any recommendations for teachers? I am probably a lower intermediate player and have been following along with Scott's Bass Lessons recently, but think I need something that requires a little more discipline and accountability on my part that I'd get from regularly scheduled online lessons. As well someone could evaluate my playing and help me work out better practice plans. Thoughts? Thanks!

First post here. A few years ago I did quite a bit of non-interactive lessons online also, but needed the interaction and accountability that you spoke of. I've been taking Lessonface.com lessons for nearly two years now and my experience with them has been great! Their interface is excellent and I dont have to travel 100 miles for instruction (I live in the sticks!). I've been taking lessons with Yonit Spiegelman. Even if I didnt live in the sticks, it would be hard to find one on one instruction by as qualified instructors for the price of Lessonface. Given the quality of the instructors they have, I would think just about any of the many they have would be awesome too.

My story is this........I had not played guitar for around 15 years and thought I'd get back into playing. While shopping for a guitar to get things started, I found a great deal on a Fender P-bass. Kind of as an afterthought, the bass was thrown in on the guitar deal. Thinking I'd just take a few bass lessons to learn some basics and then move on to guitar lessons, I have now ended up spending the past two years taking bass lessons! I found that I enjoyed the bass much more than I had anticipated and there seems to be demand for bass players locally. I'm now playing bass in a band that gigs and having a blast. The interesting thing for me was that the bass lessons have reinforced the theory side of my guitar playing. I now play guitar better while applying the fundamentals I learned through the bass instruction. I attribute much of this to great instruction from Yonit and the ease of using Lessonface. Its been a great resource and value for me. You should take a few lessons with them and give it a shot! Good luck!

For discipline and accountability the best thing you can do is get a notebook and record yourself twice a week (once at the beginning when learning something new and the end of the week to see your progress).

The other thing is not to overload yourself when it comes to learning something new.

I use Ariane Cap, I think she's great, she teaches theory and how to play the bass. Very knowledgeable on both fronts. She has a bunch of video's on YT and has written a book, "Music Theory for the Bass Player". Check out her web site and blog if you're interested. All good stuff.
