How about the biggest myth of all: that the audience can actually hear the difference in a performing situation!

well that's it really. they can't or don't care.

sure there are some things that make a huge difference but they generally involve using an entirely different rig or practicing. Otherwise i have to laugh at the cats who agonize over every little item in their signal chain as they are about to go on at Franks Bar and Grill.
 
I got given a cable that was supposedly directional... one end had a big chunky block with Guitar on it, and the other end had a big chunky block with Amplifier on it... haven't used it as the big chunky blocks get in the way so I wouldn't know if it didn't work the wrong way round...

OK, got home... it says "Ripcord Bass by MIT"
