Have you guys heard the album Harmony of Difference, from Kamasi Washington?

Great album, has to be listened to in order, because all tunes are connected and the last tune is a fusion of all the others. The first time I listened to it I didn't like, but now I can't have enough of it! Really beautiful album.

Love that album! Arturo is a beast...his American debut, right?
I revisiting this album right now. The title track is a "flight"...a bit angular & out. I'm on track 2 (the one you posted). Yes, AJ crossing the barlines-galore. I would love to hear his track solo'd!

I know you're a huge AJ fan. I recently got this (via EBay)...AJ, Harvey Mason, Grusin, Rushen, Ernie Watts, & Steve Forman. This might be Ritenour's debut? I would call this Sunday Brunch Jazz.

I sure am!! You saw my Tribute Girl build, didn't you?

That Rit tune was neat, thanks for sharing. Even when only casually listening, I heard an AJ run that made my ears instantly perk up to full attention. Very nice.

Because of this post I dug through my stacks to also revisit that album, it also contains nice work from the other bassist, Nicky Orta. Some nice solo work from Orta too.:bassist:

I grew up listening to Oscar Peterson (+NHOP) and grew to love Miles, Coltrane and much of the stuff from the 60’s. Then came Jaco! Now I’m getting into the 30’s & 40’s.
Ken Burns did a great PBS series on jazz history. Definitely worth checking out.

+1 for Oscar Peterson. My jazz drummer step father turned me onto him. Sadly, Oscar had a stroke and basically had to learn to play piano all over again.

My jazz drummer uncle turned me onto Chuck Mangione and George Benson.

I don’t play jazz but I do have an appreciation. When I was a kid My friends thought I was weird for listening to jazz.

Now closer to 30 than 20, some of my friends still think I'm weird for listening to jazz... those people aren't especially close to me. The musicians who know I love to listen to and play jazz, they get it, they dig it. We're buddies. :thumbsup:
