LH500 - Quick question

Is the fan supposed to spin at all times when the amp is on or is it temp dependent? I just picked my cab up from the store and took it home. My bass is in the shop but I wanted to make sure all was well with the head and cab. The fan will not spin and there is no sound coming from the speakers after 20 seconds or so when it's supposed to (Just checking for buzz from instrument cable while I don't have bass). I have tried replacing the tubes but it has not helped the matter.

I'm using an aftermarket 1/4 to speakon to connect the Lh500 to the ABM 610. Am I being paranoid or is there likely an issue?

The head takes a while (10 seconds maybe) to start working properly after you've switched it on. But I had a similar issue once: the head would light up just as usually, but didn't produce any sound at all. It was still under warranty and I had it repaired, so I have no clue about what wasn't working. The head was brand new, though, so I assume it's a common issue that can be easily fixed.

Only one tube. If you replaced multiples of something, they weren't tubes...
Does the power switch light up? It should do that as soon as power is applied. It then takes a while - 20 sec? - for the relay to kick in. I think the fan starts right away (but mine is an LH1000 so may be different...).

Check the fuse.
Plug an instrument cable in the effects loop.
Dial up the volume a bit and set the EQ to 2-10-2.
Exercise the BRITE and LIMITER switches.

OK - 'Engaged.'
Does it light up?
Do you hear the relay click ?
Do the other things that light up, light up (BRITE and LIMITER) ?
We are diagnosing an electrical problem - anything that lights up is a potential clue.
Did you check the fuse?
The fan not running will _not_ prevent sound. You should be able to hear some hiss and 60Hz hum when you touch the instrument lead.

My bad, power switch works so does the brite and limiter. I was checking for a hiss or some kind of noise from the speakers when I touched the cable but nothing. I think I may need to buy another speaker cable and try that aswell. I definitely think something is wrong with the fan though as it spins the tiniest amount and then stops, like it's only receiving an initial jolt of power.

The fan on my LH500 turns on as soon as I power the amp head up, and it stays on until I turn the amp off. I had an issue with my amp recently, but it sounds different than what you are experiencing. My relay would click back to warmup mode after about 10-15 seconds of playing (after initially clicking on after warmup). I was able to have it repaired under warranty, and it's running 100% now. I'd call Hartke, and have them sort it out. Great customer service, too, imo.
