Light, Class D combo amps with vintage tone?

Yes! Tried some pretty extreme eq settings. My GK MB112II was a night and day improvement in terms of muddiness in the space, but the preamp doesn't behave so well with my tech 21 vt. I'm hoping for a middle ground between the rumble and GK. I think the Rumbles would really benefit from a HPF, just haven't tried it.

They have a built in HPF. The only other thing I wonder is if you had the vintage button engaged. That thing is mud city.

Surprisingly the 200/15 is also a lot better and clearer sounding amp than the 500/210 for whatever reason

It's the cabinet. The low end is much more modest on the 200 1x15 cab. When I stack my 200 with my 500 cab, it becomes aggressive and boomy like the 500.

I paired my 200 with a Berg reference 112 and it’s magic.

Also, I've already ruled out the Rumble line, it came across as muddy in my practice space. Built in distortion a plus.

So what do you think so far? Seems this thread is going in many directions.. How much can you afford to spend?

It’s a Fender. It has a Fender tone stack, which means that all knobs at noon is NOT flat - it’s mid scooped. You gotta “goose” the mids on the controls if you wanna keep up with the rest of the band.

Sheesh, and here I thought I did a favor by posting that link since I've probably read at least 5 times in other posts this week alone how "muddy" the Rumbles are.

I just picked up a GK Legacy 800 1x12 combo. Carry on...

You can make amps in the Rumble class sound acceptable with pedals, fiddling, and adjusting technique.

If you want 'more than acceptable' with minimal fiddling and superior build and tone capabilities I would suggest something like Genzler 350 MG-12T-V or [not a combo] Mesa WD800 and 210. Many quality manufactures have equipment designed for 'Vintage' tone.

And if we're going to that level, then I'll recommend another not-a-combo to look at, the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]amp (800-watts into 4Ω) and the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] cab (700-watts rms power handling, max SPL of 134db). Until recently I ran it with my Eden WT500/800 (800-watts bridged into 8Ω). Recently got my own DNA-800 which is about 35-lbs lighter than my Eden amp in its rack (36-lbs). DNA-800 also has a great built-in compressor with adjustable threshold and ratio.

Of course if you check my avatar, you'll see I'm a DNA Endorsing Artist. I also have the DNS-410 cab that I bought in 2015 as the "last cab I'd ever buy"...obviously G.A.S. got me when I got my endorsement in 2019. Street price on the DNA-800 amp is $799 and the DNS-210 runs anywhere between $849 and $969 although I think the $969 one had the Neo speakers. Although that's a bit more than a combo, that set-up[ will fill any indoor venue. I reserve my DNS-410 for outdoors and festivals.

Here's my DNS-210 with my Eden amp on top...have to take some pics of it with my DNA-800 yet.

I neglected this thread a bit, as life suddenly got a bit busier than I was anticipating. Although I'm intrigued by the Quilter amps people keep mentioning, I'm leaning towards the new Ampeg Rocket combos. I'm thinking the 15 would be about perfect volume-wise. Since i'll be keeping it in a practice space that has had things stolen from it in the past, I'm not looking to spend too much. I like that it has an effects return, so if I don't like the baked in tone, i could just run my Tech 21 VT direct into it. I hear that pedal works better into an effects return.

Unless you plan to add an extension cabinet to the RB-115 to get the full 200W (100W without extension), the RB-112 might be the better choice (also 100W with the included 12” speaker). Otherwise, it has the same features at $130 less. I just sold a B-100R and ordered an RB-112 to replace it. Waiting for them to arrive at Sweetwater…

Tech 21 VT200 combo.

With factory SVT setting, along with 500hz Mid knob tweak and drive increase, it nail from vroom vroom big scoop clean SVT+810 voice to angry growl SVT tone.

Meanwhile, tube like vintage tone I refer to compress tube setting along with bite button engage to get more tone clarity.

If you prefer clean voice, I suggest the filp top setting along with Bite button engage or horn engage.

You can create from Clean slap tone till fat fuzz tone on this sexy light weight class D VT200 combo.

I been try the Ampeg RB115 , even how tweak the EQ and ultra hi engage, she unable bring out the growl and clarity which I able get from my VT200 combo. I believe it is because the absent of Gain knob and horn tweeter on RB combo.

I suggest you guy try out this vt200 combo your self instead reference to those YouTube demo , they din't shown out the voice character on this combo, they just tweak here tweak there and make the bass tone with unsatisfied results.
