Double Bass Light Gauge Arco Strings

Well, it's that time of year again when my arthritis flares up. I need to put a set of light gauge strings for arco on my bass. I don't know if there are any new products out there that may be helpful. Any recommendation for low tension arco strings would be greatly appreciated. I bought a set of Corelli 380Ms, but as you will see in another post, I'm not sure they're suitable for bowing (I heard they are jazz strings). Thanks for your help.

I've used both the 380M's and the 370 TX Fortes for the same reasons. I think they are both fine bowing strings - the 380 a more 'normal' orchestra string, the 370 perhaps a little more soloist. The problem with Corellis is that you're not going to get a lot of volume and on some basses they can sound nasally or, at best, "cello-like".

I've heard the the new Eurosonic Orchestra strings aren't too bad and maybe the new Passione strings from Pirastro are supposed to be easier tension. Also Compass Suites or 180's - but again, some people think the volume is less than optimal.

The Eurosonics steels (Presto Balance in the EU) are somewhat stiff.
If you want something light, get the solo-tuning set. The others are rather stiff.

To me, the Passione strings are not light.
I wish they make a Weich set.

You can get Flexocors in Weich gauge.
Maybe this could a good option for you?
