Lighter 5 String Suggestions

Typically with production basses, tue weight varies from piece to piece. For example, You might find two Fenders otherwise the same that vary up to a pound.
The Fender Am Stnd jazz v that I had was light and played great. But you really need to confirm the weight before committing. They vary. Same goes for EBMMs.

My Brubaker Brute is by far the lightest 5 string I've ever played, and has zero neck dive...maybe less dive than my Steinberger had.
These are amazing basses, and are $600 brand new. The stock pickups are not my favorite, but with a $250 upgrade you've got $850 in a bass that rivals any Zon, USA Lakland or USA Spector I've owned.

My Yamaha RBX775 weighs less than 9lbs, but it doesn't seem like a half a pound would make all that much difference, but it might. It's for sale too! 
Thanks for all the thoughts in just a half a day. i suspect there are a lot of us that that would like a lighter instrument if they were playable. heck my bass head weighs under 5 pounds and my Avatar 2 x 10 cab is very light, isn't it time our instruments got light too

This. Or maybe a hollow\chambered body if you're into that sort of thing. I can't think of any production hollow 5ers off the top of my head though.
I'll add another vote for the Spector Rebop. Mine weighed 8.3 lbs and never bothered my bad neck, even after 4.5 hour gigs. If you're after a light bass with a modern, fairly aggressive sound, I don't think you can do better for the money in all honesty.
It does have a bit of neck dive, but look for a used Rick Turner Renaissance RB5, they weigh around 5.5 lbs.
Some people like the Yamaha Rbx5 A2 that i know. Usually weigh in around 7.5 lbs. give or take. Currently one on ebay. You can find a review for the 4 string version by Ed Friedland on Youtube. Will keep you well under the 1k mark as well.

Hohner makes a headless, nearly-bodyless 5er for under a grand.

I've had a few feather weights. I've had three MPG's and all were 8 pounders. A Parker Fly 5 coming in at 8.25 pounds. You would expect Ibanez to all be light but my current 5 comes in at 12 pounds. MPG basses balance great which really helps more then the weight. You can find them at a good price. I sold one for $500 to a friend. Is pretty well beat but it still won out over the Parker.
Cort Curbow is probably 6 and change. Nice neck feel. Still available new on ebay from a few vendors.
