Lightest Poweramp?

Thanks very much for the report. Did you find precise gain matching to be a little tricky, as I did? The granularity of the amps' gain pots meant I had to hunt a bit for the "sweet spot". The QSC comparator makes this about as painless as it can get though. It's a really neat piece of gear if you swing toward the Spock side.;)

Especially if both amps have detented gain controls, I've almost always found that I had to set them between the detents in a way that they would stay put. If I were shooting for around, say 20.0 volts from both channels of both amps, I'd usually have to settle for a little higher or a little lower to find a voltage I could match up all four channels on.

We approached it a little differently. We ran a signal into an A/B box into two channels of a Presonus MP-20 preamp. The preamps two channels went to the two amps, each of which was connected to an Acme Low B2. We even swapped which amp each Acme was connected to before finishing to verify there was no cabinet bias. We balanced the outputs of the two channels to the ratio required to match the gains and left the amps' attenuators wide open. Since we did the matching at the preamp stage our issues wasn't on the amps' knobs, but on the preamp. But yes, it still is tricky to get it just right. Even though a small variation wouldn't be heard, we matched as closely as our equipment allowed.

I do swing toward the Spock side, so I would love to play with the QSC comparator.
