Ceramic or AlNico it sure did sound great!
I know from a practical standpoint it's not very cost effective
to re-cone the original driver, but I'm stuck between preservation
and functional performance.
I need a speaker that delivers exceptional touch sensitivity, because
that's how I get the tone I like without touching the knobs or using pedals.
The hardest part is matching the way the original driver stayed clean
and then the way it broke up so perfectly.
In a live band setting, you might want a more efficient driver to
bring the amp up to it's full potential volume, but for long hours
of rehearsal and tracking, the original driver's quiet roar was
exactly what I wanted.
I'm going to move the C-Rex over to my USA Blues Deluxe and
try Ted's suggestion on the 30 watt AlNiCo.
Re-coning the original driver is mostly to have the matching numbers
for preservation.
I AM still tempted to try a 30 watt Blue Dog AlNiCo, but I'm back to volume issues with the more efficient driver if I'm trying to capture the amp's mojo wide open.
This Lil grin machine is the reason I can't afford one of the matching Reeves 1X15 cabs
to go with my Custom 225.
All in due time.
Or hopefully overtime.
