Don't worry, they do. I had a 5-string that I sold recently only because the price had gone up (to around $600 for used 5-strings) and the fact that I wanted to buy something else. But when these 4-strings just popped up at $350, I thought why not? I prefer the fivers, but a four will do. I don't care about how the preset sounds are supposed to mimick other basses, depending on how I set my amp I can get whatever sound I want with most any other bass anyway, but what I really do like about these are the 8-string and 12-string sounds. That is something I cannot do with any other bass, and for this, the Variax is worth it just on it's own.

We're thinking about getting one for use in transplanting into a T-Bird. A 705 already resides here but sees no stage use yet. Really trying hard not to order one. It would really make a bargain-Bird so much more useful. Really trying hard not to.:crying:

+1 to the 8 and above sounds worth it.
Even the KLANG one is a decent, cheap mimic for someone not willing to pay for a Ric.

Yes, that's true, back up to $500. That's weird, I would have thought that if they were going to blow them out that they would sell until they were all gone. Apparently they must have just been overstocked and sold down to a comfortable level. Anyway, glad I got one cheap.
