Line Six HX Edit - Stupid questions alert...

I have a brand new Line Six HX Stomp. I need to get a preset for 1/2 step-down tuning (Reasons have been talked about before). I went to the Line Six site to download and install HX Edit. But when I select the hardware, software, and the OS, clicking the button only returns a bunch of search results with no link at all to download the software.

Any ideas from the Line Six Pros?

I should know better than to start such a project this late. I know, I'm in a hurry and probably screwing up. I could have manually entered the preset by now and that's what I'm about to do.

Stupid Question #2:

I did get my 1/2-step down preset in there and saved. I need to set up a foot switch bypass. I'm on the road to figuring that out. But for rehearsal tomorrow, I just gotta plug it in and start rehearsing! I'm set!

But I can't make HX Edit recognize my HX Stomp. MacBook Pro, running MacOS 14, using the provided USB cable. I successfully updated the firmware of the device. I tried restarting everything. Not happening. I'll have more time over the weekend to play/work with it.

Okay, just tried the HX Edit app with the Stomp connected to a USB hub connected to my MacBook Pro.

Still shows "No device Found". But I can open a window and see all the parameters to edit and I can see my "1/2 Step Down" preset. But I can't edit any parameters. Everything is greyed out.

I'm gonna do some more digging today as time allows. There's some of the usual "little something somewhere" hanging up the process.

Thanx for any ideas.

The Line6 stuff REALLY loves to be connected directly to a computer without any hub or adapters. I've run into the same issue with both the HX Stomp and G10 wireless unit.

It's been a few months since I've had my Helix so let's see if my memory serves me correctly. If not, I apologize in advance. To assign an effect to a footswitch you can do one of two things. In HX Edit, right click on the effect and there should be an option to assign it to a footswitch. On the unit itself, scroll over to the effect in your signal chain you want to assign and then rest your finger on top of the footswitch you want it assigned to.

Since HX Edit is far more convenient than making adjustments on the unit you could look into a Windows tablet like an older Surface Pro (I used a Surface Pro 4) to run HX Edit on the go. It made on-the-fly adjustments much easier at gigs.

Disconnect and power down everything including rebooting the Mac. turn on the stomp, then hook up a usb cable direct from the stomp to your Mac, no hub, no adapter, etc. You should get a pop up on the Mac asking if you want to allow the device to connect, tell it yes. If you might have clicked no or ignored the pop up in the past the Mac might be trying to do you a favor and be blocking the device from connecting.

Seems computers have gotten really aggressive with trying to protect us from those vicious little devices like Stomps and such….:banghead:

Okay, a progress report....

I finally determined that I had installed a really old version of HX Edit. Not sure how, but once I figured that out, I installed the latest version. Once I reconnected the HX Stomp, it did connect to the app. I didn't see a popup from the Mac asking for permission to connect, but once the app opened, it connected properly.

My next goal is to set up FS1 as a bypass for the pitch change. I'm not getting far with that one, but I'll get there. And when the Stomp is doing its job, it won't be bypassed.

And I've figured out another use for the Stomp....

I very occasionally play fretless bass when the need is there. I have a nice ESP LTD fretless that plays great, but I have to really boost the mids and lows to make it sound good. Eventually, I plan to make another preset with EQ settings for the fretless and may even add a touch of 'verb and/or chorus to the tone.

That's down the road. For now, I'm happy. I used the Stomp last night at the rehearsal with the artist. Everyone was impressed with the Stomp's ability to transpose the bass down and still sound pretty good. We practice with our IEMs in and I forgot about the transposing process as we rehearsed.
