Little Bear BS1 "mammoth wooly" Fuzz

Took a shot on one of the Little Bear "Mammoth Wooly" pedals on eBay. It's a blatant Wooly Mammoth clone and I won the auction for like $35 so I thought it would be worth a shot.

It arrived today and after a brief trial it seems to be pretty darn good. I've had a home built mammoth clone before but never the real thing and I prefer this to my previous clone. Nice range on the knobs and it gets really gated if you want it to be. Maybe not as harmonically rich as I would like but it's a pretty rad box for dirt cheap. If anyone was thinking about picking one up I'd go for it (just be warned that they ship from Asia so delivery takes awhile).

FYI, I have no affiliation with the builder or seller. I was looking for info when I bought mine but couldn't find any so I thought I'd toss up a mini review.

Got one of those in a trade this week, had the chance to try it out today.

Quite a great sounding fuzz for cheap money! Never tried the ZVEX original, but from the videos I've seen of it, this clone really comes close.

Tomorrow I'll be busy finding a spot for this pedal in my (already crowded) pedalboard!

I know this is resurrecting a slightly older thread but I took a chance on one of these as a cheap impulse buy on Ebay and want to throw my thoughts in on this too.

I'm surprised at how tonally interesting and usable the lower gain settings are on this. It actually has some capability of subtly and adds some aggressive low end that's warm sounding and not harsh. It's leading me to believe this will see more frequent use than I was anticipating! (It can do nasal and buzz saw on the extreme end too of course).

How long did it take for shipping? And do mind sharing which eBay buyer you grabbed it from? I noticed two different ones selling them. One shipping from HK and one shipping from China.

Thats a good question. I don't own the Mooer, but I had watched some Youtube reviews / demos of the Mooer Fog and it was on my short list of pedals to consider buying. Mainly since its fuzz is thick and leaves the low end intact or even beefed up. The Little Bear seems to be very similar in this regard (still need to try it thru bigger rig at the practice space). Decent demos of it on Youtube are definitely lacking though. Maybe someone here owns both and can comment.

Does the Mooer Fog clean up when you back off the gain or become thin and useless?

I just bought one last week and I'm waiting on it to get here.Figured for the price it wouldn't hurt much to pick one up.It'll be my first actual fuzz pedal.I got a distortion or two.

I've been meaning to update on mine since I've now had time to play with it.
As far as build quality... it definite is true bypass as advertised. It is super quiet, no added noise.
It has interesting dynamics. Since its a gated fuzz, it almost compresses your signal depending on how you set the pinch knob. There is no loss of low end when engaged; in fact I was able to dial in more and have a super beefy overdrive sound when engaged. It doesn't add any sparkle or transient highs like a lot of fuzzes would.
It sounds better at moderate settings instead of trying to get a super fuzzed out or snarling tone. I've actually been using mine with moderate settings in a worship band when I want some oomph.
It sounded terrible on guitar for me. Not that it matters, I was just surprised. It squashed my signal, robbed the dynamics and highs, but didn't sound thick or meaty at all. It's function could be highly dependent upon eq or type of signal it's being fed.
I got mine pretty cheap.... so I am super happy with it.

Just got mine 2days ago.Its a fairly... I don't know how to describe it,a raw sounding robotic yet not digital sounding fuzz.If that makes any sense?It definitely holds the low end.Cutting it full wool is almost unbearable.To me anyway.Pinch knob does seem to compress the signal alot.I'll have to play with it some more though before I give my final verdict.

Isn't having a pedal engaged earlier in your chain equivalent to a buffered pedal? I've run my Mooer Slow Engine and optical compressor ahead of the fuzz; I get some added noise but mainly from the Mooer engaged. They are daisy chained and I haven't troubleshooted if power supply is a factor or not.
