Double Bass Little more gloss

Hi all,
I´m just finising a doublebass. I used a hammerl´s oil varnish and after the final rubdown the bass has a dull surface.
I used 400 and 800 grind sandpaper and then a comercial polish paste.
The result is good and nice but a little dull. Could the experts advice for a more shiny finish?
I have tried H.S.Wake´s book formula of turpentine, water, alcohol, ect. but I don´t see improvement.
Any other checked formula?

How long has the varnish been curing? Generally you need a month or two with oil varnish before you try to rub it, unless you have used UV drying lights. Also, I think 400 is way too coarse for varnish rub-out. For final gloss you might try Super Nicko violin polish or one of the Maguire's polishes. But I think you are probably going to need to back up and put another clear coat or two on the instrument and let it cure for a while. Then you should rub with 800, 1200, then go to rottenstone or compound, followed by polish. You can avoid excessive rubbing by putting your last coat(s) on very thin with a cloth instead of a brush. Make your work area dust-free first, and vacuum yourself.

May be my varnish is not cured enough....
Just this morning I have brought pumice in a nearly paint store. Thay had only one grade (50 micron max. grain) I think it´s enough. They haven´t rottenstone. If I mix with oil, was it more glossy than with water?
One question more y if you agree, How to vacuum dust from a room?
