Loading a 1X15 cab question

I have a 3 cubic foot ported bass cab with a 200 watt 1X15 - 8 ohm speaker loaded in it. I want to upgrade the speaker with either an Eminence Delta 15LF rated at 500 watts or an Eminence Legend rated at 300 watts. The Legend cost about $125. The Delta cost about $100. The Legend has a cast aluminum frame. The Delta has a steel frame. I intend to use the 1X15 - stand alone with an LMII head. What speaker would you use? Thanks.

I'll share with you what I've recently learned mainly from greenboy's thread "Boutique 3-way 115 / 215 - on a budget yet!!! " as a reader and now an owner of the cab which is the thread subject.

First of all it seems there is a better choice than the Delta or Legend series. That would be the Eminence neo Kappalite 3015 or 3015LF. As a standalone cab you would not want to use the LF as it rolls off the highs at a much lower frequency. I think the same would apply for the Delta LF as well. Obviously the proper port tuning will benefit the overall sound but that can be accomplished easily enough.

The 3 cu ft. size of your cab falls in the middle of the recommended range for the 3015 and you would get the added benefit of low weight (only 7.9 lbs.). I have also heard respected audio engineers claim this series to be among the best 15" transducers available. I installed the 3015LF in my 3way 3.2 cu. ft. Carvin cab and have never been happier. In a standalone 3 cu.ft. I would definitely choose the 3015.
Here's a link to the thread which provides gobs of useful info.

Eminence 3015:

BLT Sound $141 ( best price I've found) great to do business with:

Just another thought. I'm not sure if you want to spend more but here's what I did. I bought the Carvin LS1503 cab (which has a very good woofer stock) for $349, retrofitted it with the KLite 3015LF for $141. I had an older 3 cu.ft. vented box which I am installing the Carvin woofer in.

So for $490 I've got a great 3 way cab and a great 115 cab I can use as a supplement for larger shows that require MUCH volume.
Just a thought...........

Additional information: Note - I am a Plumber by day (A Plumber with a master's degree - but not in electrical engineering)
I play in a country band - 4 piece - guitar, drums, bass + lady lead singer. I use Flat wounds on Fenders - I'm not really looking for much in the high end range. How does the neo sound - compared to the Delta? I heard that traditional magnets sounded warmer. The cab I have is a CGM 1X15. Don't know what brand the speaker is - but it's rated at 200 watts - and it did flub a little bit the other night - 1st real gig with the LMII. Turned down just a little - and it sounded great. Thanks for your help. I'm looking up the neo now.

Ya - I'm not so sure that I want or need a 3 way cab - or even a 2 way. I do have an epifany UL-112 that I can add to the mix if I need to.
That's OK. I played for years using one or more 15s only.
As far as warmth goes I can say I certainly don't find any lack of warmth in mine. Just good, solid, well defined low end and better power handling and xmax than any in that price point.

I know this is an older posting but I too am looking to replace the speakers in my two Ampeg SVT-15E cabinets. I'm thinking the KappaLite series is the way to go. What do you think about the LF for the bottom cab and straight 3015 for the top? Or is it better to just go with the same one for both? Perhaps the straight 3015 for both? Thanks.

What do you think about the LF for the bottom cab and straight 3015 for the top?.
There is no advantage in so doing, unless you have a stereo amp that would allow you to take advantage of the LFs higher displacement limited power by running it louder. With a mono amp use two 3015s.

Unless you are running a 210 or something with upper mids as a second cab, or have a dedicated midrange driver, I'd avoid the 3015LF - not to mention that it really needs a bigger cab than the 3015 anyway. Most "old school" 15 users will find the 3015 to make a nice full range driver, but using a 3015LF with it - even in a good box match - will detract from that.
