Lock option for thread starters?

Hi, Paul -

I thought when you decided to remove the option for thread starters to delete threads that you said the option to lock would remain. I seem to remember you saying something like, "Thread starters will be able to edit their original post (to ask the mods to delete the thread) and lock the thread."

Did I understand the rule change incorrectly? I've had two threads recently get way off track, but I can't find anyway to lock them. I'm loathe to retitle the thread "Please Delete," as this will just lead to the thread getting even more off-topic.

Hello,

User-locking wasn't considered as part of the change. You can lock your own thread ad in the Classifieds forums, but not in the general forums. Again I think we'd run into the same slew of moderator complaints when users assumed they were closing threads for no reason.

If you feel your thread is needing closing, I'd suggest clicking the 'report post' button on your first post and request the mods close your thread. They can then do so, after leaving a "closed per user request" post.

Thread starters may still edit the thread title and first post of a thread, so if you regret starting a thread, you can always go in and wipe out the first post text and replace the thread title with "mods please delete" etc
