Logical Rickenbacker Copy

Rickenbacker is such a quality instrument. Anyone who has ever had the privilege of owning/playing one knows how much care goes into each and every component on a Ric. And they fight to keep it that way. The price is totally worth the instrument you pay for and I for one am glad that you can't fake the sound with a copy. A family owned company with a rich musical heritage that hasn't compromised any bit of quality or integrity in over 75 years. That's worth paying full price for IMO.

RIC is protecting their trademark, something Fender never did. if they had, there wouldn't be any P or J copies.

You are correct. It's a company's duty to legally pursue designs that infringe their copyright and trademarks. If they don't they risk those falling into the public domain where anyone can legally use them. That's more or less what happened to Fender and why every monkey's uncle can, and does, make legal copies. I think they still have their name and logo and the headstock shapes protected but that's about it.

Agreed but I can't justify spending 1.5k on anything let alone a bass. For what it does, no matter what the quality, it cannot be worth that much. A couple of hundred for a copy, yeah. But it surely cannot seriously be worth 3-4x more just because of a brand name.

And I can respect that. I was able to get a great deal on a Geddy Jazz before prices were raised, then traded it and some cash for my first Ric (luckily Geddy's went up in price by that point and I made out pretty well on the trade).

However, at the time, I doubt I would have forked out $1500 (give or take) straight for one and may have went for the "good" copies from the 70s. I eventually sold that Ric (and made a nice profit) and now I have another one that is much much better.

I respect both sides of the coin...Ric protects their property and thats cool. Fender didnt, and thats cool with me too.

I'm with Immigrant on this one.I started with a used Ibanez for $125, later got a used Fender J and redid it,then on to a used Hofner BB and now just bought my first brand new Rickenbacker 4003. Sometimes it's a progression. Still have them all and play them all.About a month ago I tried a used Ric(not a vintage one)that had stickers all over it,was set up horribly and the major store wanted $2000 for it. Bought the new one for a lot less than that.

You got the from pauls boutique just a couple of weeks ago? This is the one I sold to them to get my hands on an old aria pro 2 sb-600. Its called logical lemmy by the company. I have the cover for the bridge pick up if you want it, sent me a pm if you do.

PM sent. And congrats on the Aria Pro!

Also, for anyone in T.O. who might be interested in one of these Logical Lemmys, I saw one at Steve's Music last week for under $600.

I assume that since its not legal to ship it over, its also not legal to purchase one in cash for personal use and bring it back over the border on your own? Or is that different?

I've always wanted to go to Vancouver. A clear green acrylic Ric copy would make an awesome souvenir.
