Long Term SX Owners

has anyone owned and played an SX bass for a long enough to comment on neck durability? i am interesting in getting one, but am concerned about the neck. my experience with other "bang for the buck" kinds of basses is that the necks dont hold up to well. is this true for the SX basses too?

generally, even tho i have absolutely no experience with SX, by the time the neck does the doozy on you you would have saved enough money and done enough woodshedding to afford and deserve a newer better bass.

however, i have not heard complaints about SX neck stability at all.

I've had my SJB-75C for more than 6 months and the neck has not moved at all.

The bass was great by itself, but it was even better after I put a badass bridge on it and replaced the pickups with Dimarzio model J. Now I have a very good bass that I use for teaching and on some bar gigs.

Excellent value for the money!

I bought the one I keep in church about 2 years ago and the neck has been very solid

I've had mine for about a year, 5 months of which were "unstrung" due to delayed modifications. I finally put strings back on the bass about a week ago, and the neck is perfect. Best $160 I've ever spent!

I've had a 5 string Jazz SX for over a year and the neck has been pretty stable,as good as most the basses I've had.I like them enough that I bought a couple more lately.

I've used my SX SPB 62 pretty hard for the past year and a half. Used on more gigs than I can remember. The neck has been very stable. Had an issue with the fingerboard shrinking a little bit, loosening a few frets, other than that, it's been rock solid. This has more to do with NewEngland winters, than anything to do with the bass. My Luthier didn't seem to supprised, as he's had lots of instruments , from high end to low, with the same issues around here. I love that bass to pieces!! I like my action real low, and check the truss rod adjustment fairly frequently. Rarely do I ever have to tweak it, and if I do, it's the smallest of adjustment. Maybe twice a year it needs the smallest of tweaks. Once agian, this is New England, so this is just stardard stuff with our climate.

I'm getting my first SX later this week. I've been playing my '79 Fender P for the last 20+ years and wanted something reliable and cheap to gig with. From all the reviews I've read, I should be quite satisfied.

I'm getting the SPJ-62. I'm thinking I might replace the j pup with a humbucker down the road.

Since I'm broke and have NO BASS to play at this moment my first purchase will probably be an SX .

SX necks are wider than fender necks so the Xtra wood should add to it's rigidity.

Yeah, I just measured the neck on my SX Scorpion (which I think looks very cool) and it measures 1 5/8", whereas I understand a Fender is usually 1 9/16". Funny, though, I don't really notice a big difference between this and my Fender-P.

I have an SX PJ that I purchased new a little over a year ago and it is still solid as a rock in all respects. I have kept it totally stock and it is my "knockaround" bass so I don't treat it the best. from the one I own they seem very durable. I've had not problems with the frets or neck tension or any of the hardware on it.

How do the SX basses compare to a Squier? Every once in a while I buy a cheap bass just for kicks, but I would not put the cash into upgrading it. So how are these stock? And what is the best SX out there in terms of quality? I'm an advanced player and don't need one of these, but if I do buy one just to drag around the house then I'd like it to at least be reasonably made and sound halfway decent. I did recently buy one of those new Vintage modified Squiers and that one is certainly good enough for my needs.

Stock they're quite solid. Overall, the SX's are about the same (havn't heard anything that stands out too much except a while back on the short scale's necks).

The best ones would probably be the limited edition ones...
