Hello talkbass world;
Introduction...
I Started classical solo at age 7, then started orchestra at 13 and finally Jazz at 15.
Orchestra, I mostly did summer camps, regional/all-state, as well as NHSHO.
Solo classical, I competed regionally, and performed occasionally with ensembles. I had the privilege of attending a Bass Jam in Tucson in the early 90s and met both Wooten and Meyer.
As a teenager, my highest point in jazz was when our ensemble was allowed to replace the DJ as live entertainment for the weekly dance party at camp. At music camp no less, we were elevated to a godlike status... It was awesome.
I started a full-ride to ASU in music performance, but after two years I was 'compelled' to change majors and ended up getting degrees in German and Engineering.
It took my oldest son turning 8 to get me to make enough time for music that I felt like I could actually claim I was indeed a bassist (again). I now have a 16 and 13 year old in orchestra carrying the bass clef torches. I'm still hoping to get the jazz itch in their blood, mal sehen.
