Double Bass Looking a Practice Regiment and Journal with the Simandl and Petracchi

hey, guys

I have been an upright bassist for quite sometime now. I most likely posted something like this before on these forums. But I am looking to set up a practice regiment and a journal to keep track of my progress on the bass.

Since I started playing, I had four of the teachers I had strongly emphasise the Simandl, and one who tried to put me in the Nanny Books. I tried out the Nanny Books, but I am not to thrilled with them at all.

I always keep coming back to the Simandl Books, but the edition I am working out now is the Sanky version, which I finding is more interesting then the drew version, and I enjoy it more.

And now for my higher position work, I have discovered the Petracchi work, which I am enjoying more then Book 2 of the Simandl Series, but I only have the drew version of it.

Can someone on the forums, help point me in the right direction in approaching the studies so I can get the most out of them. And give me some pointer on how to set up journal to keep track on what I am working on with both studies.

I also plan on throwing in some jazz studies as well, Plus some extra bowing work other then the Simandl.

I do have teacher presently, but I only meet up with him, when I truly need work and pointers to correct technical aspect of my bass playing.

Open strings
One finger scale
vomit scale
regular scale with tons of bowings and rhythms
find excersizes in the books you think are usefull (I don't agree with Simandl so I wont recomend one)
Lots of Petracchi in several keys and bowings
Etudes/studies

Do atleast this much everyday. There is a ton more stuff you can do, but atleast this is a solid starting platform to warm up on. Probably will take you about 3 or 4 hours to do it.

Pick one book (it really doesn't matter too much which one).
Work on it like it was the only book.
Get everything as good as it can be.
Finish the studies you start like they were concertos you would play in an audition.
Nail it all!
Then chose another book (the next one in the same series is not a bad choice).
Do the same.
