Looking at new bass amps

Thanks for suggestion so far. Price isnt really an issue. If its the amp for me I'll spend what it takes.

I currently have a Gallien Krueger 1001 RB11 and the GK 410 RBH cab. So preferably an amp that does something very different to the GK. I love it to bits but i could do with a rig thats abit looser and got that great midrange and room filling sound.

That's a great rig you have already, but if you want something different, you might want to look into the Genz Benz Streamliner, coming in January. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=714649
looks like they're going for a genuine tube vibe (think SVT) in a compact, 6.5 lb. package. I've been a solid state guy for years, but this one has my attention.

I also have a G-K 1001RBII, I think I understand how you can love that tone, and yet want to have something entirely different. It is like the whole hi-fi Vs. vintage thing. J bass through a G-K is one thing ... P through an Ampeg SVT is another. I recently got a MESA/Boogie 400 (non +) and I absolutely love hearing tube distortion, it feels thick, full and warm to my ears. I almost can cop the tone if I turn off the contour and presence knobs and run a VT bass pedal into it, but it doesn't feel the same. For SS G-K is great and has a growl, however it is good to have one of each. I think 300 tube watts is too much, I love my 200 watt all tube head. It breaks up beautifully at a much lower volume level than the big Ampegs, yet still has the ability to get STUPID loud! All the best to you in your search for your tone (or tones) :) Cheers.

Keep what you have and buy a SansAmp VT Bass pedal. Run it into your effects return(bypass the preamp) and enjoy your new rig. A lot easier and cheaper than going through amps.
