Looking for 15" speakers.

Hello there,

I have recently picked up an unloaded ACC 402 cabinet from a buddy. I'm eager to put some speakers inside of it to use it in tandem with a 4x12 ACC 105. The 105 4x12 is a 4 Ohm cabinet, so I would like this 2x15 wired to be 4 Ohm so I can run both cabinets at an impedance of 2 Ohms.

The 4x12 cabinet can handle around 200 watts comfortably so I'm looking for a pair of 15's that can handle about 200 watts as well. The head pushes about 170 watts rms at 4 Ohms, no clue about what it pushes at 2 Ohm. I know it's capable of handling 2 Ohms, just can't find any specs. The amplifier is set to about 5 on all the knobs and we push the volume quite a bit. We vary between a bit of high end and tons of low end depending on the songs we are playing so these speakers should have a decent range of response. Sometimes there is a bit of crunch and bite on the bass tone as well, not exactly distorted but a little fuzzy.

I don't want to break the bank, however if it means that I spend a little bit to get something that really screams I'm comfortable.

I was trying to find some time period appropriate JBL's and/or Eminence 15's but most I've seen and sourced were a bit hammered. I'm looking for speakers that I won't have to re-cone or be worried about.

I hope this is sufficient information to help direct me to a set of 15" speakers.

at an approximated 3 cu ft per driver in that cab you have some attractive options (based on the catalog page).

Can you tell us what the number of ports are and their dimensions (ie diameter and length)?

Also, what is your budget and what kind of sound are you looking for, specifically the kind of music you'll be playing?

Eminence Legend CB158

They work in almost any size enclosure, 8 ohms, cost about $130 each, and sound great.

Eminence Beta 15s...300W @ 8 ohms for around $65. I use one in my old Ampeg B2 combo and it does the job nicely.

Have to say that Delta Lite II 2515s, while admittedly a step below the 15PR400s & 3015s, are pretty darned nice, too.

+1 for the eminence Delta 15a's ($100). Would add the Dayton PA 380-8's ($76) to the list. Comparable to the Delta's but with a smooth bass response (-3db just below 50Hz, -6db @ 40Hz) vs moderate peaking (3-5db depending on tuning) centered on 100Hz and less deep bass extension (-3db @ 60Hz and -11db @40Hz), both tuned 42-44Hz in 3cf. Both have on-axis response to about 3.5kHz - decent for a 15. The Daytons bass will be tighter and deeper, while the Delta's will be 'fuller' and a little punchier (and with a higher Fb, a little 'pillowy'). The Delta's will have a little more baked in character - 'old school' or pbass like.

The higher power handling and Xmax of the 3015's and Faitals is of little benefit, given the available power. The Faitals do have a remarkably extended HF, even off-axis. The CB-15 is a nice driver, but tanks above 2kHz. If you normally turn the treble way down, this would be an excellent choice.
