Looking for a 5 string for around $1000

FWIW, I just got (literally a few minutes ago) my Sire M7 (righty 5 string) and so far it is delivering. Yeah it'll take few weeks to get really comfy with it, but I'm not suspecting there will be any need to return it. I ordered it November from Sweetwater. I didn't have to pay up front.
I'd say check in with them with a chat. Just because it's not on their website doesn't mean they can't make it happen for you. Hopefully the fact that this bass just came in, Sire's stocks are resupplied.
I also own a ESP LTD Fretless. Beautiful bass and a nice player.
I've owned an Ibby SR5 a few years back - thought I converted to a strictly P guy (for fretted) so I sold it. I can certainly say that it was a solid player.
Any of these should come in well under $1000.

I have a beautiful Tribute L-2500 Blue Burst that I bought to replace a US made L-2500 that I had a number of years ago that I've forever regretted selling. I have to say that I really can't tell the difference between the US made one that I sold and the Tribute I own now and it's about a 1/4 of the price of a Made in USA L-2500.
I'm now on the prowl for a Music Man 5 string HH model but it will have to be an Asian made one. The US made ones are priced out of this world. I had a black US made MM with maple neck but it was a 4 string and when I bought it, I was really looking for a fiver but those were just a tad out of my price range at the time. I was hoping I'd warm up to the 4 stringer but I never did. There are SO many different Music Man models now I can't sort them all out in my mind.
I say- Thomann. They have nice lefty Sire's in stock, and SHIP FAST for about 80 bucks on top of the listed U.S. dollar prices. I almost bought one, but held out to get a red one from Sire USA.
I have a V7 2nd. generation 5, - took four months, and worth the wait. You could have one from Thomann stock in lass than a week!

I know. The M5 is the one I'm interested in. Not the Jazz Bass style ones

G&L only makes one lefthanded Tribute bass, and it's a 4 string.
I will check with Sweetwater. I did see that their right handed M5s are backordered

True, although lefthanded models are far more abundant than in the old days.

That’s the truth! The days of being forced to start with an upside down righty are mostly behind us these days.
I actually played cello for 6 years before picking up the bass guitar. I have no one but my own dumb as a box of rocks teenage self to blame for my lack of instrument selection… but I choose to blame Paul McCartney instead.
They say ESP Designed. I don't really pat too much attention that stuff. I love the tone on this thing. Keep in mind, that I have flats on it and mostly use this bass for when I want to imitate an upright feel - so my interpretation of great tone may be different from yours. I prefer a cleaner sound, but I can this thing to sound dirty.
Yeah, those are the pickups in the model I'm interested in. I know they used to use EMGs, maybe some modesl still do.
No. Part of my wish list fund went to new speaker cabinets.
This will be my first ever five string, so that's the main reason for all the waffling.
I'm waiting for the Sire M5 to be back in stock at Thomann Music, but still dreaming about a neck through bass.
