Looking for a combo - $800 budget

Why a combo?
I'm regretting having gotten one. Separates are each lighter, the "only one thing to carry" hasn't really been a plus for me, and typically the speaker cab of a combo is a compromise.
I'm moving away from that to a light amp head and a relatively light but well designed cabinet, and for $800 you could do pretty well that way, say with a used GK head and an avatar cab.

yea i was wondering why a combo also. a avatar 210 or 112 and your choice of a head would be a good nice. and going with the avatar leaves you about 500 to spend on a head, which is more then enough to get something to power either of those cabs.

plus has better resell value, and probly will be alot better off in the long run. you can always use that 210 again, you cant do much with a high powered combo after you move onto head/cabs instead of combos.

imo

This might fit the bill...

The head slides out of the combo...runs about $750.00 new

Yeah, lots of good suggestions. As others have mentioned. With $800 you don't have to limit yourself to a combo, but if that's all you are ever gonna need. A combo might be a good solution, and you can buy a nice one for $800. One I don't think anyone mentioned is the Roland D-Bass series. They are supposed to be good; albeit overpriced. I'm not sure what the actual street price is, but I'm sure a used one could be had on the TB classifieds or your local racialists.

do I have to be concerned about used amps, especially solid state ones having long term perfomance issues? Or if I go Eden or Mesa, I shouldn't be concerned.

I am leaning towards scrapping the combo idea based on the feedback here.

I will be test driving everything out there this weekend. It really comes down to that, right?
