Regarding this, since that is the way I intend to use it, won't any "preamp" labeled pedal plug in the Return of an amplifier?I recommend a preamp that can output at line level so you can plug into any amp's return jack thereby bypassing the amp's own preamp.
Some pedals out there have an "Output" output and a "Line out" output, but most of the preamp pedals on the market just have a standard output (most of the suggestions here and most of the options I found as well). Are these pedals solely meant to be in the chain in front of an amp and can't be used to bypass a preamp?

Thanks again!Origin Effects Bassrig '64 could get you there but its almost as much as a Helix without the i/o flexibility. Frog pedals also makes a real tube Fender pre in stomp box form.
