Looking For A Step Up

Hello, I am a beginner Bassist who is looking for a step up from my first bass, a Barracuda JB420 Jazz Bass Copy. There are 2 bass guitars that I have in mind:

The Ibanez ATK300, and the Sterling by MusicMan SB14.

I was wondering what other bassists think is a better idea, both guitars are the same price on MusiciansFriend and they seem to have similar features, though I believe that MusicMan is a better Bass company.

I play in a band along with a Guitarist and a Drummer, so I need something that can cut through their sound. We play pretty much any style of music ranging from soft tunes to Iron Maiden style metal.

Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

That's a tough one.Considering the new MM Sterlings haven't been out all that long. Not a lot of reviews on it.But,so-far-so-good on what I've read.Knowing MM's reputation, they will put out a great product.BUT......I've heard nothing but GREAT things about the ATK Basses.

What does this tell you???It's a matter of which one you like the best.Either way,I don't think you could go wrong.

One other bass to ponder:Brubaker Brute Series Basses.Same price point.Maybe....Just maybe,a better bass.

Can't comment on the ATK. I did purchase a Sterling SB14 today. Played a CAR at Guitar Center today. Also played a MM Sterling. Couldn't get over how similar they felt and sounded. Appears to be very well made.

FYI, the final QC and setup on the new Sterling's by MM are completed in the USA,
