Double Bass Looking for Classical Teacher in Toronto

So I'm basically a jazz guy
But I'm getting a deeper appreciation for classical music lately (arranging especially)
I'm an okay bass player, but what I lack is mostly in the chops and technical department and I'd like to start studying with someone
I'm studying with Jim Vivian right now, and he's great for that - but I'm doing that through school and they're on strike for potentially months and I'd rather not dilly-dally. Plus, come summer, he might not be able to teach me anymore as he doesn't really seem to teach outside of the university
Anyone know some good guys to check out?

What, for freelancing or outside private instruction? Damn unions and their arcane rules. What if he were teaching privately outside the school already? Would the union tell him to cease immediately?

I might be moving permanently to Toronto in May, and it looks like I will be there from mid Dec to mid Jan.

No, actually I just want to go back to a big city.

Thunder Bay and the TBSO have been good to me, but it's time to move on.

Mike Milligan is not a "classical" teacher but you can't go wrong with him. He will work on whatever you want.

I would find a teacher that specializes in arco. There are plenty in the city.

I actually had a lesson with him last Tuesday
It was okay, but he did things a lot differently than Jim and I'm at the point where I need structure

No offense but if you're serious about learning classical music and want to know how to play properly with a bow then you'll need to find a teacher that specializes in it. I'm sure the people you mentioned are great musicians in their field but for bowed work you need to find a symphony musician, preferably one that knows a lot about both kinds of bows, french and german.

Yeah I think you misunderstood me
I didn't like my lesson with Milligan because he isn't that kind of a teacher
Jim Vivian is... but he's unavailable
Hence me looking for one
