Looking for Fender Info

Hey all,
Haven’t posted in a while. I’m trying to find some info on a Fender Japan series. I’ve kind of seen dates from mid 90s-mid 00s and as part of the Aerodyne series but nothing else. I’ve been trying to hunt one of these down.
Thanks!

Love me some Aerodyne. They really are noticeably lighter, and sound great. One caveat: they achieve that lighter weight by using basswood for the body. Hard finish over soft wood = easily dinged, and it cracks the finish. My spoiled nephew was given an Aerodyne Jazz as his first bass, and after a year of careless behavior it was well and truly “Relic’d”. The only real difference I’ve seen between the US and Japan model was metal vs plastic knobs, so I wouldn’t get too hung up on getting the Japanese version, knobs are cheap.

I used to have two of those. I have a dolphin grey jazz style now. Great basses. Very punchy. The binding annoyed me after a while. Which I still had them as I sold them for way less than they got for now. I wouldn’t call it a skinny jazz neck but fast. Both of mine set up much nicer than most American Fenders I had in the past. I just play Fender parts basses now as I can set them up and make them whatever I want. I would suggest the Aerodyne to any serious player though.

I have the "Natural" color one which basically looks "Orange". Love it.

This video is old, yet the most recent of a few videos I've done with this instrument. I need to get back to doing videos. Enjoy.

Lot's of folks here conflating the Aerodyne Jazz with the Aerodyne P, which is what the OP is asking about. The P was never officially exported to the US, so was never in stores.
I don’t know about the USA, but in Canada around 2006-2007 they certainly were in stores here, and I can’t imagine Fender making Japan models available in Canada but not the USA, with 10x the market size and stronger currency.

Thanks all for the comments. I'm looking for the P model. I have a California Blue Aerodyne J which I love, The body binding doesn't bother me as I play a CS Artisan Post Modern P. I've been trying to find the Japanese P to kind of match that CS before I go the custom order build sheet route.

I looked for one here for a few years and finally got one through a gray market channel on eBay. It was brand new with plastic still on the pick guard, but was embossed "USED" on the back of the headstock and had the last two digits of the SN stamped out.

Fender has always controlled what MIJ models get into the market here to protect their MIA models. Fender Japan has made lots of cool stuff over the years we never see here. Canada might be different.

Exactly!! these are not the Aerodynes from North America. And sorry Fender_Bender- must disagree- this is the thinnest bass I own and my forearm doesn't even make conatct with the top edge.

Dave

I had beautiful amber one for a while. I found when playing with a pick, the sharp body binding edges were not uncomfortable. Playing finger style OTOH, the sharp edge was pretty annoying where I rest my foerarm, after even just a few minutes playing. A def 'con' for me and why I sold it. Apart from that I thought it was a nice bass, despite the counter-sunken bridge, "dyed" rosewood fretboard and basswood body. Not an upper tier Japan Fender bass perhaps, but it was well put together and finished nicely. I'd say that for players who don't care for sharp body edges, this model may not be the ideal bass. Just sayin'...
