Looking for my ideal P/J

Contact Brian at Link Removed, he worked at Roscoe basses for quite a while and recently opened his own guitar shop in Graham NC. He does amazing work! He's currently building me a P/J out of USA Custom parts, Lollar pickups with Nitro finish.
His Fret jobs are second to none!

Like I said, I want this instrument to be something that retains its value. A tricked out Squier or Sx will most likely not be worth the sum of its parts in just a few years



The work doesn't bother me. If wanted to put that kind of effort in, I'd likely go with a custom Warmoth build.

I have never played a $300 instrument that meets or exceeds the feel and tone of $1,500 instrument.

I AM NOT saying that expensive = good
I AM NOT saying that inexpensive = bad

I am simply attempting to find the best possible instrument that can be purchased "off the shelf" to meet my requirements.

My sentiments pretty close, anyway.

I would look well and long at the Deluxe Jazz w/active p'ups then. Consider it for what you find it to be - but if it isn't set up right, what's the problem? Most people here totally condemn a bass if the strings are too high-too low or the wrong bead colors.

I don't get it. Adjustments are easy to make and personalizing your bass is part of ownership anyway - so what gives?

FWIW: my 'off the shelf' Deluxe has required nothing but a slight string height adjustment and checking the intonation, which was spot-on anyway and required no adjustment.

And if it needed intonation? Do it!

I get a lot of chin music from nay-sayers that my MiM Deluxe must be a piece of fecal matter since it's made in Ensenada, Mexico. Bah!

The short of it all: try it - play it- love it (or not) and decide if it should be yours (or not).

Just get beyond the label, other player's opinions, stigmas of any sort - and play it like there's no tomorrow.
